Sadhappy Day for Houston

Well, the Astros were swept in their first World Series. I call it a sadhappy day only because it is just short of a miracle that they were there in the first place.

Growing up a sports fan in Houston would lead one to a life on the brink. Houston is the city of almost champions. So many times when I was growing up there we got close, only to be beat out by some of the most dominant teams in (insert sport here) history. Perfect example is the Oilers who kept losing to Pittsburg in the playoffs in the late 70's. Luv Ya Blue, Bum Phillips, Run Earl Run, you remember. The 1970's Steelers were a true dynasty and the Oilers picked that time to try to be good. Same thing for the Astros in the 80's who bumped up against the Mets.

Houston finally won it all with he Rockets, but c'mon... that is the NBA. Does anyone really watch that anymore? (Generic White Guy Comment) But seriously folks, that was the first professional championship won by in Houston since the Oilier won it all in the AFL... not the AFC, the AFL.

So, good for the Astros going to the Series and in the words of Bum Philips...

Last year we knocked on the door,
This year we pounded on the door,
Next year we are going to kick the sum' bitch in.
