The Irony of Homosexuality

I know it has been a while since I have blogged but thus goes the world with applications such as Twitter. But here I am finding the need once more.

I read an article (http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg20427370.800-homosexual-selection-the-power-of-samesex-liaisons.html?full=true) on the evolutionary theories behind same sex behavior in the animal kingdom and something struck me that I hadn't realized until now. Homosexuality could be a step in the direction to disprove evolution.

I'm sure this comes as no shock to folks that the devout are not touting this bit of evidence, but if you think about it, why would same sex coupling exists in animals when there is no clear benefit to the survival of the species? I'm sure this is not a new thought but I am also sure it is not widely spoken about. The article is actually about what scientist are theorizing as to why homosexuality exists in the animal world, but they all seem to be fairly weak arguments.

So the way I see it is one of these is true:

1. At least part of the Evolution Theory is incorrect.
2. Homosexuality is a genetic flaw
3. God is here and wants and supports homosexuality

I don't mean to do so, but I'm quite sure I just pissed off everyone I know, despite which theory you subscribe to. I just love the irony and the flaw in all of these, Evolution, Homosexuality: Born not choice, and God hates gays. What this tells me is that there is quite a bit of work to be done to explain it all. So until the Theory of Everything is perfected, we will just rage on with the debate.

I have never understood comparisons to the "animal kingdom" with respect to human sexual orientation or behavior. Aren't we thinking beings, capable of understanding God. Of course, I am a Catholic and evolution is not irreconcilable with anything I believe about the Bible; I am a renegade Catholic b/c I don't see homosexuality as a sin when two people love each other. I find it weird that people are obsessed with it. Anyway, interesting line of thought.

I just found this post on accident. But I hate to tell you, you are barking up the wrong tree.

That evolution happened is well established, but there is still debate on whether Darwinian adaptationism is adequate to explain all of evolution. So this is what these studies of same sex behavior imply, not that evolution didn't happen, but whether Darwinism explains all evolutionary process.

hey was just hopping blogs and thought i would point out that heterosexuality and homosexuality are more human than what you might think. A large proportion of amimals (if not most) are bisexual. Its only really people that are exclusively one or the other. From an evolutionist point of view this makes perfect sense as not everything to do with survival relates directly to reproduction alone

I think the 2nd one best sums it up, and I'm not in any way meaning that in a bad way. The comment is not meant to be insulting, but is simply my personal view and observation.

There is a genetic flaw that causes an anomaly just as genetics can be traced to killers.
