The Irony of Homosexuality

I know it has been a while since I have blogged but thus goes the world with applications such as Twitter. But here I am finding the need once more.

I read an article (http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg20427370.800-homosexual-selection-the-power-of-samesex-liaisons.html?full=true) on the evolutionary theories behind same sex behavior in the animal kingdom and something struck me that I hadn't realized until now. Homosexuality could be a step in the direction to disprove evolution.

I'm sure this comes as no shock to folks that the devout are not touting this bit of evidence, but if you think about it, why would same sex coupling exists in animals when there is no clear benefit to the survival of the species? I'm sure this is not a new thought but I am also sure it is not widely spoken about. The article is actually about what scientist are theorizing as to why homosexuality exists in the animal world, but they all seem to be fairly weak arguments.

So the way I see it is one of these is true:

1. At least part of the Evolution Theory is incorrect.
2. Homosexuality is a genetic flaw
3. God is here and wants and supports homosexuality

I don't mean to do so, but I'm quite sure I just pissed off everyone I know, despite which theory you subscribe to. I just love the irony and the flaw in all of these, Evolution, Homosexuality: Born not choice, and God hates gays. What this tells me is that there is quite a bit of work to be done to explain it all. So until the Theory of Everything is perfected, we will just rage on with the debate.

On my way to BRU..... Again

On my to Brussels again. My phone is on the fritz but I think it is the CDMA radio so maybe the GSM will work over there. If not, I may be able to work something out. But likely this trip will be a bit less chatty than the others.

At least I'm in 4A on a 777 which is a treat for BRU.

The Bad Policy Begins

It scares me more than a little to think that we, the United States, are discussing creating a state whose leaders’ mantra is the destruction of one of our strongest allies. We should not even consider supporting a sovereign Palestinian state until the Palestinian people make it clear that they can get along with their Jewish neighbors. Launching missiles into Jerusalem is not “getting along”.

This news comes on the heels of the secret Obama letter to Medvedev offering to trade European security for influence in Iran. Although, since Europe doesn’t seem to want our help or protection, I’m not sure this is a bad deal. But it does go to show that the White House lack of foreign policy experience is already taking its toll on the security of our allies. Of course since the “world” seems to still be smitten with our President, I wonder if they will even notice or concern themselves with the consequences of these actions.

Pride

One of the things that make me the most proud of being an American and an employee of American Airlines is the our passengers and our staff treat our men and women who serve our country. I was fortunate enough to be upgraded as a non-rev passenger and was honored to sit with six soldiers. On revenue passenger even offered to give up his first class seat in order to upgrade the soldiers. Fortunately there were plenty of seats for everyone. The round of applause for these men when the Captain thanked them for their service was loud and long and made us all very proud to safe and free in the U.S.A.

The best news of all is that I received news that Sean would soon be home from Iraq. A true blessing.
